Types of Pain

Cervical Pain

You should see a neurosurgeon for problems in the neck, shoulders, arms and/or hands, if you have experienced pain, numbness, tingling and/or weakness in any or all of these locations.

Neck pain
Arm pain
Weakness or numbness in your arm or legs
Pain or temperature sensation in your hands or arms
Poor balance
Failed physical therapy or pain management

Low back Pain

Low back pain is a common and disabling disorder in our community and is related to disability and work absence.

  • Back pain
  • Leg pain
  • Weakness or numbness in your legs
  • Poor balance
  • Failed physical therapy or pain management

Peripheral Nerves

Common problem affecting hand function due to compression of nerves. Carpal tunnel is the most common pathology of the peripheral nerves. It most often occurs when the median nerve in the wrist becomes inflamed after being aggravated by repetitive movements.

Carpal tunnel is the most common pathology of the peripheral nerves. It most often occurs when the median nerve in the wrist becomes inflamed after being aggravated by repetitive movements, such as typing on a computer keyboard, talking on the phone (holding phone to the ear), texting or playing the piano.

    Common Symptoms of Carpal tunnel

  • Hand and wrist pain
  • A burning sensation in the middle and index fingers
  • Thumb and finger numbness
  • An electric-like shock through the wrist and hand
  • These symptoms are often exaggerated when the wrist is bent forward. The numbness or pain may be worse at night, and may actually keep patients awake. During the day, it may occur more often when participating in activities that bend the wrist (talking on thephone, driving).

Ulnar nerve entrapment is the second most common entrapment nerve pain in the upper body. Ulnar nerve entrapment happens most often at or near the elbow, particularly on the inner part of the elbow. Ulnar nerve entrapment can also happen less frequently at or near the wrist.

Common Symptoms of Ulnar nerve entrapment

  • Some of the symptoms of ulnar nerve entrapment may occur in the elbow, particularly if that is where the problem originates. However, most of the symptoms of this condition occur in the hand and fingers. Many of the symptoms tend to occur when the elbow is bent.

Brain

Neurosurgeons provide the operative and non-operative management of neurological disorders. Because neurosurgeons have extensive training in the diagnosis of all neurological disease, we specialize in brain tumors, brain trauma and neurocritical care.

  • Headaches
  • Trigeminal Neuralgia
  • Occipital Neuralgia
  • Brain tumors
  • Brain metastasis
  • Pituitary tumors
  • Hydrocephalus
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Stroke
  • Cavernous malformations
  • Brain aneurysms

Our Treatments

Spine Surgery

Surgery can be considered in persons who have suffered significant functional disabilities and in those with unremitting pain, despite multiple nonsurgical treatments. Good evidence supports the use of spinal fusion for treating back pain caused by fractures, infections, progressive deformity, or instability. Spinal decompression, nerve root decompression, and spinal fusions done for the right indication will have excellent results in patients suffering servere and chronic pain.

Spinal Fusion

Spinal fusion is an operation that creates a solid union between two or more vertebrae. Various devices (like cages, screws or plates) may be used to enhance fusion and support unstable areas of the cervical spine. This procedure may assist in strengthening and stabilizing the spine and may thereby help to alleviate severe and chronic pain.

Schedule an appointment to find what is the best option for your cervical spine problem.

Robotic Surgery

Robotic minimally invasive spine surgery allows us to develop a comprehensive surgical plan and visual outline of the procedure prior to and during surgery. This ensure accuracy and reduces radiation exposure, in addition to the benefits of minimally invasive spine surgery of less blood loss and lower risk of infection.
